The General Intelligence and Security Service (AIVD) will handle your data with care. This privacy statement applies to all digital contact forms used to collect and process personal information. For the AIVD, data protection is regulated by the Intelligence and Security Services Act 2017 (Wet op de inlichtingen- en veiligheidsdiensten 2017).
Government websites that are connected to the government's online platform (Platform Rijksoverheid Online – PRO), which includes www.aivd.nl, use analytical (non-privacy-sensitive) cookies which assist in monitoring the functioning of the website and the way it is being used by visitors. Traceability of visitors is limited as much as possible. You can read more on the Cookies page.
When you complete and send in an online contact form, for example when you request an AIVD publication, enquire about an access to information request, or want to know more about the website's accessibility, we will process your personal information.
What is personal information?
Personal information is the information you enter in a contact form which says something about you or can be traced back to you, such as home address, e-mail address, or phone number.
How does the website process personal information?
Personal information on this website will only be registered for the benefit of processing online contact on the Dutch section of our website. We process the information solely for the purpose for which you sent in the contact form, for example to reply to a question regarding a job position or to send you a publication at your request.
This information will not be used by the AIVD in its investigations into threats or for security screenings.
Information from an online contact form will be retained for a maximum of 5 years and deleted and destroyed within this legal term.
Which Act is applicable?
The AIVD is exempt from the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the European privacy directive. For the AIVD, data protection is regulated by the Intelligence and Security Services Act 2017 (Wet op de inlichtingen- en veiligheidsdiensten 2017).
This act is even stricter than the GDPR in overseeing data processing. Our independent oversight committee (CTIVD) has unrestricted access to our systems and can speak with all our employees. This committee regularly issues reports on the AIVD.
