The Intelligence and Security Services Act 2017
The AIVD's work is governed by the Intelligence and Security Services Act 2017 (Wiv 2017), which entered into force on 1 May 2018.
It also includes provisions to ensure that we are as transparent as possible, because what we do is visible, and therefore we are publicly accountable for our actions.
These rules are a direct result of the European Convention on Human Rights, which requires the work of the intelligence and security services to be "clear, foreseeable and accessible" to the public.
