AIVD employee suspected of breaching state secrecy
The Central Criminal Intelligence Agency yesterday arrested an employee of the General Intelligence and Security Service (AIVD) on suspicion of breaching state secrecy. It is alleged that the person in question disclosed information to third parties.
The AIVD discovered this and reported the employee in question, who was yesterday suspended with immediate effect. The AIVD took immediate steps to minimise the consequences of the breach. As far as it is possible to tell, the damage to ongoing investigations is slight. The Central Criminal Intelligence Agency is carrying out a criminal investigation into the nature and scope of the case. The Minister of the Interior and Kingdom Relations, Johan Remkes, has advised the Parliamentary Committee for the Intelligence and Security Services.
