The cyber advisory reports published below are based on intelligence research conducted by the AIVD (General Intelligence and Security Service). Some were developed in collaboration with other organizations such as the MIVD (Military Intelligence and Security Service), the NCSC (National Coordinator for Security and Counterterrorism) and other international organizations.

Russian state actors are compromising IP cameras

Intelligence from the Netherlands General Intelligence and Security Service (AIVD) and the Netherlands Defence Intelligence and Security Service (MIVD) – the Dutch services – illustrates that Russian state actors are systematically conducting digital espionage operations via IP cameras (cameras with internet access). At least one Russian intelligence and security service is responsible for these operations that are taking place in the Netherlands, various other EU and NATO member states and Ukraine. This cybersecurity advisory concludes with actionable recommendations to mitigate the risks of espionage via IP cameras.

Russia targets Signal and WhatsApp accounts in cyber campaign

Russian state hackers are engaged in a large-scale global cyber campaign to gain access to Signal and WhatsApp accounts belonging to dignitaries, military personnel and civil servants. To increase resilience against this Russian campaign, MIVD and AIVD have published a Cyber Advisory explaining how to identify and respond to attacks. The advisory also give instructions for Signal users on how to identify potentially compromised contacts.
